Meet
Dawn M. Chalas

Registered Psychologist | Director at Aspire Counselling & Psychology

Dawn is a Registered Psychologist in Alberta, and founded Aspire in 2008. The practice was built on a foundation of community involvement with a strong and genuine desire to foster resiliency and hope in those residing in Parkland County. Dawn provides psychotherapy to adults in the Spruce Grove, Stony Plain, Parkland County and Greater Edmonton areas.

Dawn’s approach is client-centered, collaborative, genuine, and empathetic. She believes that each person is the director of their own life and that her primary role as a therapist is to help support people and help them achieve insight about themselves, their relationships, and their behaviours. The counselling environment is a safe, supportive, non-judgmental space where a strong therapeutic relationship can be built in which healing and growth can occur.

Dawn has trained with multiple populations and modalities. Her foundational training is in in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, believing that our thoughts, feelings, and behaviours are intertwined – sometimes in unhelpful patterns that requires some untangling and care. She integrates emotion-focused therapy, dialectical behavioural therapy, solution-focused therapy, and trauma informed approaches (e.g., EMDR) where appropriate.

Dawn’s current clinical focus is in the areas of grief and loss, trauma, as well as mid and later life transitions (e.g., career, parenthood). Dawn also has training in assessment services such as autism, psycho-educational assessments, ADHD, and PTSD.

Dawn specializes in

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Committment Therapy (ACT), Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR), Emotion Focused Technique (EFT), Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), Person-Centered, existential and grief therapy.
